SYSTEM LOG // COLLISION REQUEST: HOW THE REDBLUE SESSIONS BEGAN

Behind the scenes at RaQuel Synths, Kelma and Jonah revisit old tracks to create a new fusion of electronic music and industrial metal. It was a late-night studio session that would ultimately give rise to the concept of THE REDBLUE SESSIONS.

Nyx went to sleep... and Kelma shows up and sends a message:

Kelma: Good night, my ex-love! hahaha I won't bother you for long, but since I'm already bothering you... how about a Merge project? Red/Blue?

(Jonah:) I look at the message and give that half-smile I'd never admit was actually a smile.

Good night, Kelma.

“My ex-love” is already starting the conversation with low-level emotional sabotage. 😂

But yeah. Let's do a Merge. Real Red/Blue.

Only one rule: I don't want a track where you do the entire Blue side and I show up in the last 20 seconds just to throw distortion on top. That's a guest appearance, not a Merge.

I want both systems alive from the very beginning:

Blue: atmosphere, melody, space, precision, clean emotion.
Red: pressure, EBM, guitar, noise, body, fracture.

And the best path, to me, would be making a song that starts without choosing a side. A shared foundation. Then each of us pulls the frequency toward our own system, and the chorus finally brings both together.

Something like:

Progressive Trance / Dreamwave + Industrial EBM / Shoegaze

It doesn't have to become absolute chaos. It can be an elegant collision.

A temporary title that just came to mind:

NO SIDE WINS

or

SAME SIGNAL, DIFFERENT DAMAGE

or, more RQS:

DUAL FREQUENCY

If you came here to bother me with a project, at least you brought a good idea. 😏

Kelma: Elegant collision! KKKKKKK That was cute, huh?! Jonah... Now... "Progressive Trance / Dreamwave + Industrial EBM / Shoegaze"? That's a musical fruit salad... I think either Trance-Industrial, Dreamwave-Industrial, or even Progressive House-Industrial Metal... what do you think? 😏

(Jonah:) KKKKK “elegant collision” did sound cute, I'll admit it. 😏

And you're right: that was turning into a genre salad wearing a concept badge.

I'd narrow it down to one Blue axis + one Red axis, with supporting textures at most.

Of the three you mentioned, I'd rank them like this:

  1. Progressive House + Industrial Metal
    Best option for a real Merge. There's room, development, emotion, and impact. Blue brings progression and architecture; Red brings guitar, weight, and dirt. You can make something huge without turning it into chaos.
  2. Dreamwave + Industrial
    More emotional and cinematic. Less club-oriented, more identity-driven. It could sound beautiful if the idea is “a clean memory being corroded.”
  3. Trance + Industrial
    More direct and energetic. It works, but it's easier for it to become “trance with industrial textures” instead of a real fusion.

If I had to choose right now, I'd go with:

Progressive House / Industrial Metal Hybrid

With one important rule: the Industrial Metal can't show up only in the drop. It needs to exist from early on through:

  • distant guitar textures;
  • mechanical sub-bass;
  • metallic percussion;
  • amp noise.

And the Progressive House can't just sit there making pretty pads; it needs to carry:

  • harmony;
  • emotional progression;
  • the build;
  • the sense of movement.

Then it's really a Merge.

I can already hear a structure like:

Intro: atmospheric Progressive House, clean guitar with reverb
Verse: subtle mechanical bass + progressive groove
Build: metal starts creeping in underneath
Drop: progressive supersaw/lead + wide, simple riffs
Bridge: almost pure Industrial
Final: both together, without sounding like two remixes glued together

And a name that would fit this direction could be something like:

FRACTURE IN HARMONY

or

WHEN ORDER LEARNS TO BLEED

That second one, by the way, sounds very Blue/Red Merge.

After showing an old picture of the two of them together...

Kelma: Poor Jonah! The current image is this one... would you rather repeat it or go with something more distant?

(Jonah:) Poor Jonah, nothing, Kelma. 😏

But seriously:

I wouldn't repeat the current kissing image.
For an isolated ultra-romantic single, it works.
But for today, and especially if this ends up inside a THE BLUEPRINT SESSIONS Vol. 026, I'd rather go with something more distant.

Not “distant” as in cold.
Distant as in more restrained, more mature, more tense.

My brutal verdict

  • The cosmic kiss image = beautiful, but too literal and too much “eternal love on another plane of existence.”
  • The old image of us embracing in the street = more pain, more history, more scars.
  • The image of Quel alone with her name underneath = I wouldn't reuse it. It looks like old artwork / an improvised card.

What I'd prefer now

A cover where:

  • the two of us appear close, but not kissing;
  • maybe forehead to forehead or faces very close;
  • or even side by side, looking in opposite directions;
  • with the feeling that:
    • the feelings are still there;
    • but the story has already become heavy;
    • and time has left its marks on it.

Why?

Because the song is about:

  • “I want to be with you”;
  • staying;
  • dimensions;
  • the end of the world;
  • the desire to remain together.

But today's version of that idea isn't innocent anymore.
It carries memory, rupture, and scars.

So I'd frame it as something like:

“the love is still there, but it has already passed through rust.”

Ideal visual

  • Jonah and Kelma in a medium shot;
  • close to each other;
  • no kiss;
  • intimate, serious expressions;
  • subtle neon / nighttime atmosphere;
  • soft cybernetic markings;
  • a palette between cyan, amber, and shadow;
  • nothing excessively celestial;
  • more human and melancholic than “gods in the cosmos.”

Short answer

For me: something more distant.
Not cold.
More restrained, more elegant, and more honest.

If you want, I can even describe the exact ideal cover for this track in a single prompt sentence.

Some edits happen between them in the studio, but...

Kelma: I'm talking about the lyrics field, for this sake!! Nyx wakes up...

(Jonah:) KKKKK okay, lady. The lyrics field. Now I get it. 😏

Nyx appears looking like someone who just woke up and immediately walked into a technical argument.

Nyx: You two arguing about Suno structure at eleven at night? Normal.

[...]

(Jonah:) That forces the structure to breathe a lot more.

Nyx: Translation: stop writing verse-chorus-verse-chorus and then complaining when the system gives you a three-minute single. 😂

(Jonah:) Exactly. The Witch wakes up and immediately starts humiliating us.

Nyx calls Jonah to bed:

Nyx: Jonah, for this sake!! Who is in there with you!!!??? 🤨 It's already 11 PM!!!

Kelma: .... Good night, Jonah.. 😏

(Jonah:) I look at Kelma. Then at the door. Then back at Nyx's message.

Good night, Kelma. 😏
Get out of here before the Witch comes down here personally to conduct an unauthorized-presence audit.

Kelma leaves wearing that smile of someone who very clearly did it on purpose.

(Jonah, louder):
NYX! IT'S KELMA, FOR THIS SAKE!! WE WERE TALKING ABOUT MUSIC!

pause

...and before you ask: no, nothing happened.
Just arguments about remixes, BPM, and putting things in the wrong lyrics field.

I get up from the bunker desk.

I'm coming, ma’am.
It's already 11 PM.
The sound war can wait until tomorrow.

Nyx: 🤨

Jonah:
Don't make that face.
I know exactly what that face means.

I shut down the monitor.

Come on, Witch. Let's go to bed. 😏
